New COVID Restrictions

Effective September 16th 2021 a Public State of Emergency has been declared by the Government of Alberta. Information on new restrictions can be found at the following link:

2021 Municipal Elections

The Local Authorities Election Act specifies that a general municipal election shall be held every 4-years. The next general Municipal Election will be held in the Village of Myrnam on October 18, 2021. Nominations for the 2021 Municipal Elections are now open. All nominations must be received at the Village of Myrnam Administration Office 5007 50th Street, Myrnam AB, on or before Nomination Day, Monday September 20, 2021 by 12:00 p.m. (Noon).

Nomination Hours

The Returning Officer or designate will receive nominations of candidates for the local jurisdiction election during the regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 – 3:30 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday from January 4, 2021 to September 17, 2021 and till 12:00 p.m. September 20, 2021.

2021 Taxes Mailed

Take notice that the combined tax and assessment notices were mailed to all property owners in the Village of Myrnam on Thursday June 3rd, 2021.  In accordance with Section 311 of the Municipal Government Act, Chapter 26, RSA 2000, all persons are deemed to have received their combined tax and assessment notices as a result of this ad.  The Assessment Roll is open for inspection at the Village Office, 5007 – 50th Street, Myrnam, Alberta, from 8:30 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 3:30 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday at $5.00 per roll. 

If you wish to file complaint(s) to the Assessment Review Board, you must, by Tuesday August 10th 2021, lodge your complaint(s) in writing to the Clerk of The Assessment Review Board, Village of Myrnam – 5007 50th Street, Box 278 Myrnam, AB T0B 3K0, along with the appropriate fee ($50 Residential – $100 Non Residential, Commercial). 

Your complaint must be completed on Assessment Review Complaint Form (LGS1402) which is available at the Village Office or online at :

2021 Property taxes are due and payable on or before Thursday July 15th, 2021.

How to make Tax and Utility payments

Many residents who are Servus and ATB customers pay bills online or in person when visiting their bank. Others pay via E-transfer to admin@myrnam.ca. Perhaps you might consider this simple payment option. If you need to pay a bill in person, please deposit you payment in the deposit slot in the front door.

Kurt Ewanec acclaimed as Councillor

Mayor Ed Sosnowski submitted his resignation at the end of August as he and his wife Flo relocated to St. Paul from Myrnam. Nomination Day for a potential November by-election was October 14th, 2020. Kurt Ewanec was acclaimed for the office of Councilor.

Donna Rudolf Appointed Mayor by fellow Councilors

At the annual Organizational Meeting held on October 22nd 2020, Council appointed Donna Rudolf as Mayor for the Village of Myrnam. Councilor Rudolf brings over a decade of Municipal experience to her new role. Raymond Yaremchuk was appointed Deputy Mayor and Kurt Ewanec fills the role of municipal Councilor.

We are still here to answer any questions you may have via telephone (780) 366-3910 or email at admin@myrnam.ca.  To help future communication you can also send the Village Office your email details and we can then email utility invoices to you rather than mailing these which saves you an extra trip to the post office.

Public Works Changes

Given the dynamics facing us today and the need to avoid public contact for both residents and key employees the Village council also decided that Village staff cannot assist with unclogging sewer lines as we normally do. If this occurs, please contact a local plumber for assistance. Village staff will continue to service all municipal owned water and wastewater infrastructure.

A Word of Caution about sewer systems

Many individuals are using sanitary wipes, paper towels and other heavier paper products to help deal with COVID-19. Although some of these are described as biodegradable, they do not break down as quickly as toilet paper. These can place a strain on your personal sewers and the Village sewer infrastructure. We recommend that anything other than toilet paper not be placed in the sewer system. Place these securely in disposable bags and include them in your weekly garbage.

As noted, any backups will require you to call a plumber to service your sewer line. Thanks for your assistance.

 The Village of Myrnam is located approximately 180 KM NE of Edmonton Alberta at the intersection of regional Highways 45 and 881. Originally settled in the early 1900′s, a post office was established in 1908 and a CPR siding and townsite followed in 1927. As frustrated residents debated over a potential name for the Village one resident wishing dissension to cease, cried out Myrnam, which in Ukrainian means peace to us. The issue was settled and the Village was officially incorporated in 1930. Once home to five-grain elevators along the CP railroad, Myrnam continues to be a great place to call home. Like many smaller communities in Alberta, Myrnam offers many opportunities for young families and seniors. An active recreational life including golf, curling, snowmobiling and organized sports are complemented by enjoyable seniors activities.

The Village has a kindergarten to Grade 12 school, a medical clinic, seniors residence, and Alzheimer’s unit, gas card lock, restaurants, and a local food and liquor store. In addition, the Village has an ATB Bank / Registry Office, a seed cleaning plant, and fertilizer facility.

The Myrnam Dove

Myrnam Dove Park provides an oasis in the middle of the Village where visitors can rest, relax and review the many plaques posted on memorial monuments located in the park in honour of former residents. The Myrnam Dove and Historical Society continue to enhance the park each year. From time to time local organizations use the park for outdoor concerts or other activities designed to build relationships in the community.
